The Surf Baseball and Softball Program is designed to foster the development of youth baseball and softball in the South Bay by enhancing fundamental knowledge through education and training. Time proven, we know that consistently teaching the proper fundamentals along with regular game application allows our players to develop the skills necessary to play better today and succeed in the future. Our players learn from numerous baseball and softball experts who bring their expertise from advanced levels of both play and coaching, including: local high schools, colleges and the minor and major leagues.  Our seasoned staff offers diverse baseball and softball knowledge and a commitment to youth development second-to-none.  We look forward to the opportunity to help your son or daughter become the best!

The   Refinery   would   like   to   introduce  our New Instructors:


Kaitlyn Hooper
Availability: M-W-F 2pm - 9pm

Kaitlyn is a 2010 graduate from Patriot High School in Riverside CA earning 3 varsity softball letters with all-conference recognition and academic honors. After high school she attended Santa Ana College starting on the mound or in the outfield collecting 24 wins her sophomore year. While at Santa Ana Kaitlyn received scholar athlete honors and graduated with her AA in 2012. She also had the opportunity to play internationally with the California A’s summer of 2012 where they attended the Canada Cup. While there they played teams like Peru, Mexico, Great Britain, and many more before clenching the championship.
Moving on to the University of Redlands she continued her education and collegiate career. Kaitlyn ended conference her senior year with an ERA of 1.08 with 15 wins 1 loss and 2 saves. This helped Redlands get their 10th straight SCIAC championship. Kaitlyn received 1st team all SCIAC recognition and SCIAC Female Athlete of the week. While at Redlands she completed her degree receiving a BA in Psychology. Now Kaitlyn is currently an assistant softball coach at El Camino College. 


Russ Kontos:
Russ Kontos played at Mira Costa High School as a utility player. He went on to play for Shane Schumaker at El Camino Junior College as an outfielder and catcher. In 2007 he stepped away from the game to serve 4 years in the Marine Corps. At the end of his contract in 2011 he returned to Mira Costa as an assistant coach on Junior Varsity. In 2013 as the Varsity hitting coach he helped lead the team to the CIF finals at Dodger Stadium. Now in his 5th season at Mira Costa, he is an assistant Varsity coach and is in charge of the outfielders and catchers.

Ron Perodin Jr:
Ron played at Leuzinger High School.  Played at El Camino College where I was all American as an outfielder and lead the state in stolen bases with 47. I was drafted to the Minnesota Twins in the 27th round in 2002. Played 6 years with the twins in their minor league system as a outfielder. My second year with the Twins i was second in the organization in stolen bases with 32.
